It's the first weekend of October, the air has that little chill in it, and if you're like me you've already mentally committed to at least one night of snacks and a queue. The folks over at Yahoo put together their five best picks for the weekend, and I went through the list like I was picking teams, so you don't have to scroll another Friday night away.

The headline grabber for me is Coyote vs. Acme. If you've been reading this site for a while, you know this movie had a long, weird road to reach audiences, and now it's finally here and available to buy or rent. That's enough for me. Watch it for the Looney Tunes chaos, stay because a movie that fought to get released deserves an audience.

Tyler Perry's Doing Life is also on the list, and Perry's output is machine-like at this point, for better and occasionally worse. But the man knows his audience and delivers for them on a schedule that would break most studios. If you're in the mood for one of his dramas with actual stakes, that's your pick this weekend.

Camp Miasma is the one I knew the least about going in, which usually means it's the one I end up loving. The full title is apparently Teenage Sex And Death At Camp Miasma, which tells you most of what you need to know, and October is exactly when I want that specific flavor of watching something through my fingers. Slasher season creeps closer every weekend from here.

The list rounds out with a couple more picks, and you'll want to check the full rundown over at Yahoo for where each one is streaming, since the platforms are doing their usual game of musical chairs. I will say the spread is good this week, there's a genuine pick for every mood, which isn't always true of these weekend lists.

My weekend plan, since I know you're wondering: I still owe you my Super Mario Bros. Movie review, that's happening Saturday, probably with a kid-sized popcorn I have no business ordering. Sunday is for catching up before the fall premieres pile up on me. Jess keeps telling me I'm three weeks behind on something and I keep pretending I didn't hear her.

But Camp Miasma is calling my name. What are you watching?
