Retro preservation fans, this one's for you. A 1990s Sega game is getting a fresh special release on PS5 next month, and it's staying PlayStation-exclusive. According to ComicBook.com, the drop arrives September 1, and only on Sony's console.

We've been on a genuinely great run for this stuff lately, and now 90s Sega history gets its moment on modern hardware. If you never lived through that era, trust me, Sega's 90s catalog ran deep with weird experiments and strange swings that deserved way more attention than they got. A lot of those games have been trapped on aging discs and dead hardware for decades.

That's why releases like this matter to me. Every time one of these games gets rescued, a little piece of gaming history stays playable for people who never got to touch it the first time around. I've said this before and I'll keep saying it: a game you can't play might as well not exist. Preservation is community work, even when it shows up dressed as a slick PS5 re-release.

Platform exclusivity on a retro re-release is a little unusual, and I'd expect the usual grumbling from Xbox and Switch 2 owners. Fair enough. But for now, September 1 is a PS5 date, so if this era of Sega history is your thing, that's where you'll need to be.

Did you actually play this stuff back in the day, or are you one of the brave souls finding it through re-releases? Either way, worth a look when it lands.
