Bluey is everywhere right now and the blue heeler isn't slowing down. Per AOL, a new Bluey video game just locked in a release date, and it's landing ahead of the Bluey movie, which hits theaters in 2027.

The game is coming in 2027, timed to ride the wave of the theatrical film. I think the movie is the franchise's boldest move yet, though I'll admit that's just me talking, not the press release. Details are still thin on what the gameplay actually looks like, which is pretty standard for an announcement this early. Expect games-with-the-kids energy, probably some Grannies, almost certainly a dance mode. If there's no Keepy Uppy minigame I'll eat my remote.

If you're wondering whether the world needs another Bluey game, the last one, Bluey: The Videogame from 2023, was well received by adults and kids alike, which is rarer than it sounds. Family games live or die on whether both generations want to keep playing after the first night, and that's basically the whole formula. You don't need a Bluey soulslike. You need twenty minutes of calm before bedtime.

But the movie is the real engine here. The Bluey film was announced with a 2027 theatrical release, written by show creator Joe Brumm, and the plan is clearly to have the game on shelves when family excitement peaks. Cross-media timing like this used to be sloppy, toys showing up six months after the movie left theaters, but the current playbook is tighter: game ready when the hype is hottest.

What I'm genuinely curious about is whether the game leans into the movie's story or does its own thing. The show has always been better in small slice-of-life doses than in big plotted adventures, and a game built around little backyard games might actually suit Bluey better than a film tie-in would. We'll see.

Platforms are locked in, at least mostly: the game is slated for PlayStation 5, other modern consoles, and PC. No exact street date yet beyond that 2027 window. I'll keep an eye on it. In this house Bluey news is not optional, my niece has made that very clear.
