Another week, another Netflix drop. This one actually has some meat on it, which is more than I can say for most weeks. The lineup for October 5 through October 11 is headlined by Animals and Mayor of Kingstown, and ComingSoon's rundown bills them as a Ben Affleck thriller and a Jeremy Renner-led crime series, so that's the frame we're working with. If you want the whole list, that's the place to go.

Animals is the one I'll queue first. Anytime Affleck shows up in thriller mode, I pay attention, because when he's locked in, he's one of the better brooding leading men we've got. I'm not saying every one of these hits, I'm saying when they hit, they really hit. I'll know more once I've actually watched it, and I'll report back.

Then there's Mayor of Kingstown, the Renner-led crime series. I never fully caught up on this one when everyone was talking about it a few seasons back, so a Netflix landing feels like a decent excuse. Renner's the kind of actor who can carry a whole show on his shoulders, and crime series tend to live or die on exactly that. This might be my weekend catch-up.

I've said before that most weekly Netflix additions aren't worth your time, and I'll keep saying it, but we just crossed into a new month, which means the licensing deals from that first-of-the-month wave are still settling. This is the one stretch where the weekly list can surprise you with a random catalog gem tucked between the algorithm filler.

The rest of the slate is the usual mix, and some of it will probably cycle out of the top ten faster than it arrived. Maybe one thing sticks, which is usually how it goes.

My plan is Animals first, then maybe a couple episodes of Kingstown to see if it grabs me. If you're wondering what to queue up tonight, start with the Affleck. You could do a lot worse.
