Netflix just dropped the full trailer for Sacrifice, the new movie starring Anya Taylor-Joy, and it's got an October release date locked in. so if your October horror/sci-fi/whatever-this-is calendar was looking thin, consider it fixed.

Quick rundown for anyone who hasn't been following this one: it's led by Anya Taylor-Joy (yes, Joy, the headline shorthand is doing a LOT of work there) alongside a cast that includes Chris Evans and Charli XCX, which is a sentence I did not expect to type this year and am fully enjoying. The trailer leans hard into dark, stylish, vaguely cult-y energy... candles, robes, people whispering ominously. You know the vibe. It looks expensive and a little unhinged, which is basically my favorite genre of Netflix drop.

If you want the shot-by-shot breakdown, FandomWire has the full trailer breakdown with all the cast and story details laid out, and I'm not gonna pretend I can top a frame-by-frame read at 400 words.

What I will say: Anya Taylor-Joy does this kind of movie better than almost anyone working right now. She has the whole unsettling-stare thing down to a science, and pairing that with Chris Evans playing against type is genuinely smart casting. You spend the whole trailer trying to figure out who's the danger and who's the bait, and that's all you need a trailer to do.

The October date also means Netflix is stacking spooky season early, which tracks with basically every streaming platform rn. Everyone wants the Halloween audience and, fair enough. It's the one time of year people actively seek out movies where everyone might die.

Anyway. Trailer's out, date's set, and I'll be watching from my couch, which I've already established is a completely valid way to see a movie. More details as Netflix coughs them up.
