ok avatar fans, real update on Avatar: Seven Havens and it's actually a good one. per Variety, the first season drops in batches of three episodes per week. not a full binge dump, not the slow one-episode drip either. batches of three. premiere is set for October 9 on Paramount+. (worth noting some outlets have said the schedule could still shift, so keep a little flexibility in your soul until we're actually watching.)

three a week is kind of a genius middle ground for this show specifically. a single episode of avatar is a lot of setup sometimes, and waiting seven whole days for the payoff is torture. but dumping a whole season at once kills the week-to-week conversation, and half the fun of this franchise is being insane about it together. three episodes means you get an arc, you get a cliffhanger, and then a whole week to lose your mind with everyone else. someone over there was thinking.

I keep thinking about how weird it is that avatar is basically a multigenerational franchise now. like there are kids discovering the original series on streaming right now who will grow up with Seven Havens as THEIR avatar, the way my generation had the original and slightly older millennials had Korra. grandma always says the best tech is the stuff that gets handed down and reimagined, and I think stories work the same way. this one keeps getting handed down and it keeps surviving the trip.

one honest caveat, because you know I don't just hype: any batch format only works if the episodes themselves earn the wait. the original show earned patience. a new series has to earn it again. so that first batch on October 9 is gonna tell us a lot.

anyway. the cycle continues and I will be seated, three episodes deep, on October 9.
