BeamNG.drive has had one of the strangest release arcs I can remember. The soft-body physics sandbox spent years as a Steam Early Access curiosity, blew up all over again thanks to YouTube crash compilations, and now, finally, the PS5 version has a date. Per PlayStation Lifestyle, it lands October 19, 2026.

If you've somehow never fallen down this rabbit hole, BeamNG is a driving sim built around a node-and-beam physics engine where every panel, axle and suspension component deforms individually. Nothing is faked with canned crumple animations. Hit a wall at 80 and the car folds the way a real car would, which is equal parts horrifying and impossible to stop watching.

Seeing this thing sitting next to AAA releases on a PlayStation storefront, after all those years of PC-only life, is a little surreal. And per Gaming Nexus, the PS5 build ships with the 0.40 update from the PC early access version. So console players aren't getting some stripped-down port. They're getting the current state of the game. That matters for a sim like this, where the difference between builds is often the difference between a car that behaves and one that launches into orbit.

Mod support is the big open question. The community has long treated the mod scene as essential to BeamNG's staying power, and I'd count myself in that camp, but there's no official word yet on how or whether mods carry over to PS5. That answer will matter more than any launch trailer.

October 19 gives it a few weeks of clear road before the fall release pileup gets truly stupid. I'll have thoughts once it's in hand. Expect a review where I drive a van off a cliff in the name of journalism.
