Fall menus are landing everywhere right now, but the one that stopped my scroll this week is from Bistro du Midi in Boston. NRN's latest new-on-the-menu roundup has the details, and the highlights are two crudos and a corn pizza that sounds like peak October to me.

The salmon crudo on the tasting menu comes dressed with a concord grape gel, and honestly that pairing alone sold me. If you've only ever had concord grapes in juice box or peanut butter sandwich form, trust me, they're one of the most underrated flavors of the season. That jammy, wine-dark grape flavor against clean raw salmon is exactly the kind of thing I'd cross town for.

The second crudo is hamachi with a yuzu-ginger emulsion, and that one sounds like it was built for the fish. Yuzu brings the citrus lift, ginger adds a little warmth underneath, and hamachi is rich enough to carry both without getting pushed around. And then there's the corn pizza, which is what I'd probably order first, because sweet corn on pizza is one of those things that shouldn't work as well as it does. It's basically the end of summer on a plate, served in October.

I've said this before and I'll keep saying it: a handful of things done well beats twenty things done medium. A kitchen committing to raw fish and a seasonal pizza is telling you where its confidence lives. Crudo is unforgiving, no hiding behind sauce or heat, so a restaurant putting two on the menu at once is either swagger or it's earned. At a Boston tasting-menu spot, I'd bet on the second.

I'm plotting a New England swing before the month is out, and this just jumped to the top of the Boston list. Has anyone tried the grape gel yet? I want to know if it's as good as it sounds before I build a whole trip around it.
