Blizzard just gave Diablo fans a date to circle, way out in the distance: Diablo V lands in spring 2029, and there's an animated series in the works with Netflix riding alongside it. Per the MSN report, both came out of BlizzCon 2026, which has apparently decided this is the year of just telling us things instead of letting us speculate for two years.

Spring 2029. I keep typing it and it still looks fake. That's a longer runway than most game announcements get, and to me a window announced this early is either confidence or a promise they'll be haunted by. I've watched enough MMO patch cycles to know that dates set this far out are more like vibes than commitments. Even so, a new numbered Diablo with an actual window attached is real, and that matters.

The Netflix series is the part my community-brain loves most. Blizzard's animation track record is genuinely strong, and Diablo's lore, Sanctuary, the Eternal Conflict, all those doomed little towns, is basically built for episodic horror-fantasy. If they lean into the dread instead of sanding it off, this could be special. If it plays it safe, we'll know within one episode.

What we don't have yet is anything about gameplay, classes, or whether Diablo V builds on Diablo IV's open-world direction or swings somewhere new. The question I keep turning over is what a full sequel can do that seasonal updates can't. I remember Diablo IV's launch being rocky before it settled in, and my own guild's seasonal crew never really stopped grinding, but that's my memory talking, not something Blizzard is claiming here.

Three years is a long time to wait. My plan: keep the group chat alive, let the Netflix show hold us over, and start the countdown now. What about your crew, still running Diablo IV seasons or long gone?
