Little Bird Studios has dropped an official announcement trailer for Carry the Count, a co-op action-adventure that just landed on my radar, and honestly for one simple reason: it's built to be played together. You can watch the trailer over on MSN.

Details are thin. Genuinely thin. The source material says nothing about what's actually in the trailer, and there's no release date or platform list anywhere. So this is the start of a conversation, not a countdown. What we do know is the shape of it: a co-op action-adventure built around the idea that the best moments in games come from the person sitting next to you, or yelling in your headset, making a plan and immediately abandoning it.

If you've read my stuff before, you know where I stand. Cost kills more group plans than lack of interest ever does, and the games that succeed socially are the ones that make it easy to say yes. I've watched good co-op games quietly fade because four friends couldn't justify four separate purchases on release week. Nothing has been announced about pricing or subscription plans for Carry the Count, so I'm speculating here, but availability will genuinely shape its chances with groups.

And that name. Carry the Count has a counting-mechanic ring to it, maybe something rhythm or timing based, maybe keeping a tally under pressure. Speculating, obviously. But a title that hints at a shared mechanic you and your partner have to maintain together is exactly the kind of hook co-op design lives for. It takes me back to DPS-check coordination in raids, where the whole group succeeds or fails on a single shared number.

I'll be watching this one. The co-op space has been quietly excellent lately, and there's always room for a scrappy action-adventure to carve out its own corner.

What's the co-op game that made your regular group fall apart laughing mid-wipe? Drop it in the comments. Those are the stories I'm here for, and I have a few of my own that probably shouldn't be printed.
