Cloud Strife is having a moment. Actually, he's been having one for like three years straight now, but Square Enix is keeping the momentum going with a brand-new appearance on October 22, 2026. The spiky-haired mercenary is coming back in Visions of Resonance, giving us something to play well before Final Fantasy 7 Revelation lands in 2027.

According to Gamerant, Cloud will be a playable character in the upcoming title. Details are still pretty light, but the October 22, 2026 date is locked in.

It's the timing that gets me. TJ Jackson and I have been going back and forth for weeks about where the soul of Final Fantasy actually lives these days, and I think he'd agree that Square Enix is doing something smart here. Keeping Cloud visible across multiple projects instead of going dark between mainline releases just works.

Think about it from a community perspective. The FF7 Remake project built this enormous, passionate player base that lives for speculation, theory-crafting, and those late-night Discord sessions picking apart every trailer frame by frame. Dropping Cloud into another game in October keeps that conversation alive. It gives people something to play, something to argue about in patch notes and build guides. I mean, that sustained engagement is exactly how you keep a community healthy during a gap year.

I've seen this play out in MMOs constantly. FFXIV does it beautifully with seasonal events and crossover content between major patches. You give people a reason to log in, a reason to care, and a reason to stay connected to the world. Visions of Resonance feels like it's filling that same role for the FF7 universe, just in a different format.

The FF7 Remake trilogy has been one of those rare gaming experiences where the community feels genuinely connected to the journey. Everyone remembers where they were when the Midgar plate fell for the first time in Remake. Everyone has a take on Rebirth's ending. And now we've got a whole new chapter of Cloud content landing October 22, 2026, with the main event still out there on the 2027 horizon.

So yeah, October 22, 2026. Mark it. Whether you're a day-one Remake player or someone who just loves a good JRPG, Cloud's next stop is worth paying attention to. And if you see me in the player lists on launch day, you already know who I'm maining.
