Every console generation gets a victory lap eventually, and Collider just gave the PS4 its with a full ranking of the 10 best games on the system. Reading through it hit me right in the nostalgia, because the PS4 era was a weird one for me personally. My raid group at the time was split between platforms, and half of them bought a PS4 for exactly one game. You already know which one.

Bloodborne. Collider names it among the games that defined the generation, and it belongs in any conversation like this. FromSoftware's gothic nightmare spawned a wave of games clearly chasing its energy, and in my opinion none of them have matched the aggression of that combat. I still remember a guildmate describing his first Father Gascoigne kill over Discord at 2 a.m. like he'd just won a championship. Games like that don't come around often.

God of War (2018) is the other obvious pillar, and Collider has it front and center too. Kratos as a father, the single-take camera, that entire Lake of Nine hub, it changed what a big Sony blockbuster looked like overnight. Looking back at the 2018 reboot now, you can see how much of the current franchise roadmap was seeded there.

Ghost of Tsushima rounds out the three titles Collider highlights, and it earns it. A gorgeous open world that trusted you to find your own way across the island, plus a photo mode that ate entire evenings for a lot of us. The combat had that satisfying standoff rhythm where one clean duel could clear a whole camp.

Beyond those three, I won't spoil the rest of the ordering here, because arguing about it is half the fun. Whatever Collider did with slots four through ten, someone's favorite is getting disrespected somewhere, and lists like this exist precisely to start those fights.

What strikes me most about this ranking, though, is what it says about the PS4 itself. That console carried an entire community through a decade, at least it did mine. My clearest memories of the era are the co-op nights no one planned but everyone remembers, and the long arguments with TJ about where Final Fantasy's soul lives. He loves pointing out that the PS4 era gave us FF7 Remake, and I'll grudgingly admit it belongs in any serious conversation about the generation, wherever it landed on Collider's list.

So here's my question for you: what's the game that defined the PS4 for your crew? Was it a raid, a co-op campaign, one miserable beautiful night in Yharnam? Drop it in the comments. I have a feeling Bloodborne shows up more than anything else.
