If you've been following the Coyote Vs. Acme saga at all, you know this felt like one of those "I'll believe it when I see it" situations. Warner Bros. shelved this completed live-action Looney Tunes comedy back in 2023, animation fans everywhere were furious, and now, finally, the thing has an actual theatrical release date. Wile E. Coyote is getting his shot on the big screen.

Quick recap if you missed the whole mess. Warner Bros. Discovery pulled the plug on a finished movie in 2023, and Coyote Vs. Acme turned into this whole symbol of studios treating completed projects like disposable tax write-offs. A movie people genuinely wanted to see, locked away, and the explanations never really made sense to anybody.

According to Reuters, the film has landed a proper theatrical release. The vault actually opened.

I've been wanting to see this since the first stills leaked online. The concept is genuinely great: Wile E. Coyote sues the Acme Corporation over all those faulty gadgets that have been blowing up in his face for seventy years. A legal comedy starring a coyote who never speaks, going after the company that sold him rocket skates, giant rubber bands, and anvils that always somehow landed directly on his head. The live-action animation hybrid format takes me right back to Who Framed Roger Rabbit and those early Looney Tunes movies like Space Jam and Looney Tunes: Back in Action, the ones that understood the characters were funny enough on their own without needing a ton of plot machinery around them.

The release date is August 28, 2026, which actually puts Coyote Vs. Acme in a pretty good spot. We're in the middle of a real animation boom right now, studios are actually paying attention to theatrical animation again after years of treating it like streaming content. A Looney Tunes movie hitting theaters feels like an event in a way it probably wouldn't have three years ago. These characters have been funny since before most people even had a television in their living room, and that brand has staying power.

Jess Wingo would probably tell you she cares more about whatever soundtrack they put together for this thing, and honestly she wouldn't be wrong, the music in these hybrid films can make or break the whole energy. But for me it comes down to one thing. Does the movie actually understand why Wile E. Coyote is funny? He's funny because he never stops. He's funny because every single plan backfires in the most spectacular way possible and he comes back the next day with a new blueprint. If the movie gets that right, it gets everything.

August 28, 2026. Mark it down. The coyote finally catches his day in court.
