The Esports World Cup is going all-in on merch. The Esports Foundation just dropped the EWC26 Paris Collection, a line of apparel and collectibles tied to this year's Paris tournament. Player-inspired jackets, trading cards, the kind of lifestyle wear that tells you competitive gaming has fully absorbed the streetwear playbook.

I've been catching chunks of the EWC broadcasts this year and the production values are no joke, legitimately in the same league as traditional sports. This merch push tells me they're not just putting on a single tournament. They want a brand that sticks around after the finals wrap.

The collection centers on a few key pieces. The player jacket has enough bold styling that it wouldn't look out of place during an NBA tunnel walk. Trading cards are in the mix too, which takes me right back to tearing open packs of 1990 Upper Deck hockey at my cousin's kitchen table, that smell of stale gum and cheap cardboard. Esports has been borrowing from the traditional sports collectibles playbook for a while now. This feels like the first real attempt to actually claim that territory.

The Paris branding specifically caught my attention. Tournament merch used to mean a logo slapped on a black tee in three sizes. Now we're looking at a full lifestyle collection with design language tied to a host city. The Foundation calling it a "drop" tells you exactly who they're chasing.

Whether the trading cards hold any long-term value is anyone's guess. The esports collectibles market is still finding its legs next to stuff like Pokemon TCG or Magic, where decades of history set the floor. The jackets will sell on vibe alone though.
