OK so Netflix is acting like a real studio about Extraction. The action movie the streamer keeps calling its biggest, the one that broke their viewership numbers by their own count, is getting a new release ahead of the already-announced sequel. And the timing is... not subtle.

The first Extraction was a genuine phenomenon when it dropped, and the sequel somehow upped the chaos. Netflix's framing was "most-watched" by their internal metric, so take the exact numbers however you want, but the point stands. This franchise is basically Netflix's answer to the John Wick machine.

The new release is the part I actually care about. Streamers love to pretend physical media doesn't exist, and then one day the movie just... isn't there anymore, because licensing deals expire and algorithms shift. My grandma Elizabeth has been yelling about digital ownership for years and she's right, owning the file on your own terms beats hoping it stays on the app forever. A physical release of a Netflix action movie feels like a small win for the physical media girlies (me).

Details are still thin on what exactly is included and I'm not gonna pretend otherwise. No confirmed features, no packaging info, nothing yet. If there's behind-the-scenes stuff and commentary in there, great, but Netflix hasn't said, so I'll update the second they do.

The Extraction movies are also just good, which I feel like people forget? Hargrave was a stunt coordinator first and it shows, the fights have weight, the camera doesn't shake to hide choreography like it's embarrassed. Dante keeps telling me nothing beats practical action and for once he's right, even if he'd want me to sit through a three-hour cut to prove it.

No release date for Extraction 3 yet either. Netflix is being cagey about basically everything past "it's happening," which, fine. This is Hollywood, nobody ever actually stays dead or stays gone.

You can read the full story over at MSN, and I'll update the second Netflix confirms what's actually in this release.

Anyway, if you've never seen Extraction and you like action movies that actually deliver, fix that this weekend. just don't watch it on your phone. The stunt team deserves a real screen.
