Fantasy Bundesliga is back this week and if you're like me, you're staring at a striker list with hundreds of names and a budget that feels like it was calculated by someone who hates you. Yahoo Sports put together a striker guide for the 2026/27 opener and I ran it through my usual process: trust proven volume, ignore pre-season hype, don't get cute in Gameweek 1.

Same rules I laid out for FPL last week apply here. Early season fantasy is about floors, not ceilings. You want strikers with guaranteed minutes and a defined role on teams expected to dominate possession, not the 19-year-old who bagged two in a friendly against a third-division side.

Premium tier is where you start. Whatever big-money striker Yahoo puts at the top of their list, that guy is priced that way for a reason: penalties, set-piece presence, and a scoring floor most strikers in this game just don't have. If you can stretch the budget to fit the elite option, start there and build backwards.

Mid-range means paying for production you've already seen. You're not betting on a breakout or a bounce-back, you're buying a striker who's already shown he produces at this level. That's the profile I want in Gameweek 1 and it's the same logic behind my no-wildcard-in-Week-1 stance from the FPL piece.

Budget enabler territory is where leagues get won, and it's where I'll push back on instinct a little. Cheap strikers who pop early see their prices climb fast and suddenly the bargain guy is priced like a mid-range asset. If you're going budget, target the guy with a defined role on a promoted side that actually plays front-foot football, not a bench piece at a big club whose price tag is just brand tax.

One thing the Yahoo piece doesn't hammer enough: check the Gameweek 1 and 2 fixtures before you lock anything. A mid-priced striker with two home dates against weak opposition beats a bigger name traveling away in the opener. Fixture swings matter more in Bundesliga fantasy than most because the gap between the top teams and everyone else is so wide that matchups get lopsided fast.

Ray would tell me I'm overthinking a game about German football and should just pick the tall guys who head the ball. I'm pretty sure he finished near the bottom of our work league last year, though he'd dispute that until his dying day.

Full squad reveal before Friday's lock, and yes, I'm tracking receipts this season same as always. Who are you anchoring with up top, the premium guy or the spread-the-money approach? That answer usually decides your whole build.
