We've made it to the end of August, and if the summer slate left you thinking 2026 already peaked, hold that thought. The fall and holiday calendar is stacked, and Deseret just rounded up the biggest ones still to come. Reading the list felt like flipping through a menu where I want everything.

The headline names are obvious. Sunrise on the Reaping, the Hunger Games prequel adapting Suzanne Collins' novel about a young Haymitch Abernathy getting thrown into the 50th Games, anchors the whole slate, and that one has real weight behind it. The appetite for Panem clearly never went away, and I say that as someone who thought the well might've run dry. Then there's Avengers: Doomsday, which might be the single most anticipated movie on the planet right now. Deseret flags it alongside Sunrise on the Reaping as the engine of the box office momentum heading into the holidays, and it's easy to see why, entire release calendars are being built around this movie.

The framing underneath the list is what got me, though. Deseret's read is that the fall is a sustained run of titles expected to keep feeding the momentum the box office has been riding all year, four months deep, one big release after another. Exhibitors needed a stretch like this after the lean years, and a slate this wide pulls in its own crowds back to back, the families, the teens, the sci-fi heads, the people who only leave the house for the biggest of the big. Different audiences, same box office chart.

I've spent this entire year learning not to bet against these movies, and I see no reason to start now. Every time I've thought the well was dry, another title came along and proved me wrong. The fall lineup looks like more of the same, and I mean that as the highest compliment.

Anyway. Clear your calendar, start saving for ticket prices now, and if anyone needs me I'll be in a theater seat somewhere between here and December 31. What's the first movie on your list?
