The rumor mill never really sleeps, does it? Barely three months after Samsung shipped the Galaxy Z Fold 8, the leaks for next year's Galaxy S27 lineup are already rolling in, and this latest batch over at Geeky-Gadgets has some genuinely interesting bits about the Ultra and a possible new Pro model.

The headline grabber for anyone who takes a lot of video calls (grandma of a teenage granddaughter here, so that's me most evenings) is a jump to a 16-megapixel front-facing camera. Samsung has sat on a 12-megapixel selfie sensor for what feels like forever now, and while megapixels aren't everything, a bump like this usually means better detail in low light and sharper video. Your face on a group call might finally stop looking like it was filmed through a screen door.

The other big one is LPDDR6 RAM. If you don't follow memory standards the way I do, and I don't blame you, this is the next generation of mobile memory and it brings meaningfully faster speeds with better power efficiency. Quicker, and easier on the battery at the same time. I remember when phones shipped with 512MB of RAM and we thought that was extravagant, so yes, I notice these things.

And speaking of battery, the rumors suggest a larger cell for the Ultra, which is the upgrade people actually ask me about more than any other. My family never asks about RAM. They ask "will it last through the whole day?" If Samsung pairs a bigger battery with the efficiency gains from LPDDR6, that answer could finally be a comfortable yes.

Now, my usual caveats apply. These are leaks, not announcements, and early Galaxy S rumors have a long history of being half right. The "Pro" model naming in particular is still fuzzy, so I'd treat that part with an extra scoop of skepticism. Samsung typically unveils its flagship S series in January or February, so we've got a few months of leaks ahead of us before anything is official.

Should you wait for it? If your current phone is doing its job, no. Technology should work for you, not the other way around, and a phone that still gets you through the day doesn't need replacing because of a leaked spec sheet. But if you're limping along on something three or four years old, the S27 lineup is shaping up to be worth the patience.

I'll keep watching this one and report back as the picture gets clearer. In the meantime, maybe go take a walk. The leaks will still be here when you get back.
