The first week of September is loaded, and I mean loaded. Revenge thrillers, the Mirzapur gang finally hitting the big screen, a movie with a title I can't stop saying out loud. Per Outlook India's roundup, the week spans revenge, romance, comedy and action across streaming and theaters, so there's something for basically every mood you could be in. Which is the whole point of a good release calendar.

The headline grabber is Mirzapur The Movie, and I've been tracking this one for a while. After years of the series living on streaming, Kaleen Bhaiya and company are getting a theatrical run, and that alone makes it the event of the week for Hindi film fans. Per BollywoodHungama, it hits theaters on September 4. Pankaj Tripathi, Ali Fazal, the whole crew back for a victory lap. I've said before the Hindi films hold their own, and this is a fun test of that on the big screen.

Then there's Gandhari, the revenge thriller that's been generating serious buzz. A revenge premise is exactly the kind of thing I queue up without hesitation, and the early word has been strong. If you've been in the mood for something with teeth, this looks like your week.

And can we talk about Jeevan Bheema Yojana for a second? What a title. I can't confirm what genre it lands in because Outlook's summary doesn't spell it out, but the name alone sounds like a comedy, the kind of title chosen by someone who knew exactly what they were doing. There's a confidence in naming your movie something that goofy. I respect it, and I'll find out what it actually is the same way you will, by watching.

The week isn't just those three, either. Outlook's full list covers romance and action picks spread across the streaming services and theatrical releases, so if revenge thrillers aren't your thing, the bench is deep. That's the nice thing about this stretch of the calendar, the summer blockbusters have mostly cleared out and the weird, interesting stuff starts sliding in.

My own viewing plan is pretty simple. Mirzapur in a theater, because a movie that size earns the big screen and the crowd that comes with it. Gandhari at home with the lights off. And Jeevan Bheema Yojana whenever I need a palate cleanser between the two.

What's on your list this week? If it's any of these three, I think you're in decent shape. If it's all three in one day, well, I've done worse. I don't believe in guilty viewing strategies anyway.
