By the power of Grayskull, we have a date. He-Man & The Masters of the Universe: Dragon Pearl of Destruction officially has a release date, per ComicBook.com's report. After all the waiting fans have done on this one, having an actual date on the calendar feels worth marking.

Dragon Pearl of Destruction comes from Bitmap Bureau Ltd., and it's built around the classic Masters of the Universe cast, with He-Man naturally headlining. Beyond that, the source is light on specifics, so I'll hold off on guessing how the rest of the roster shakes out until we see more. But a game where He-Man takes center stage in Eternia sells itself to anyone who ever tied a blanket around their neck as a kid.

What's interesting is the position this project is launching into. Nostalgia adaptations have had a genuinely good run lately, and audiences show up when a property is treated with respect instead of just licensed out and shrunk onto a cartridge. And He-Man fans are patient people by necessity, I mean, these are folks who grew up on the Filmation series, survived the 1987 movie, kept the 2002 series alive in their hearts, and showed up again for Revelations. The community around this property is one of the most durable in all of fandom, and a good game would be a real payoff for them.

Now the countdown begins for real. I'll be watching for the first proper gameplay reveal, because that's when we find out whether this thing has the weight to back up the Sword of Power fantasy. Nobody wants to swing the most iconic sword in animation history and have it feel like a pool noodle.

Did you grow up with He-Man, or are you coming to Eternia fresh? I want to know which side of the fandom is more excited for this one, because I suspect the answer is both, loudly.
