Hot Toys has officially unveiled two 1/6th-scale Wolverine figures based on Insomniac's Marvel's Wolverine, both modeled on Liam McIntyre's take on the character. GeekTyrant has the full reveal if you want to pore over every seam.

If you've never handled a Hot Toys figure, the short version is that these things are ridiculous in their detail. The reveals show Insomniac's savage Logan with the kind of care Hot Toys is known for. These are figures that end up in glass cabinets, not tossed in a bin with the old ToyBiz collection.

What gets me is the commitment. Two separate figures for one character design is a real vote of confidence in the look, whatever else is going on with the game itself. Wolverine has survived worse decades than a mixed news cycle, and clearly someone at Hot Toys looked at this Logan and decided he deserved the full treatment. Twice.

Two figures usually means one standard release and one loaded-up version, though we'll have to wait and see how Hot Toys splits the difference, assuming they do at all. Either way, expect the usual Hot Toys price bracket. Which is to say, start saving now.

And there's a fun parallel here to the Bethesda Atlan statue from Doom: The Dark Ages I covered a while back. Studios increasingly treat high-end collectibles as part of a game's launch conversation instead of an afterthought a year later. The merch line and the release cycle have merged, for better or worse.

Anyone else already clearing shelf space, or is your display cabinet as overstuffed as my retainer bank after a savage prog week? Ask me how I know.
