Okay so the new trailer for How to Rob a Bank just dropped and I've watched it three times already. Zoë Kravitz chasing down Nicholas Hoult and Pete Davidson is the whole movie and the entire pitch. I'm in.

The setup is exactly the kind of chaos I want from an action-comedy: Hoult and Davidson play a pair of guys who decide robbing a bank is the answer to their problems, and Kravitz is the one hunting them down. And the energy in the trailer is very "we know this is ridiculous and we're having a great time." Which, if you're gonna make a movie called How to Rob a Bank, is the only correct tone. Take it too seriously and you lose me in the first thirty seconds.

Hoult keeps quietly becoming one of my favorite watch-him-in-anything actors. The man goes from Nosferatu to Renfield to this, and he never feels like he's repeating himself. And Davidson in a heist movie is just... a good idea? His whole laid-back chaotic thing works so well when you drop him into a high-stakes situation. The guy feels like he's improvising even when he isn't, and a genre that lives on banter needs exactly that.

And Kravitz. Come on. She does cool without trying in a way that should be studied. There's a shot in the trailer of her mid-pursuit where she looks more annoyed than stressed and I immediately understood her entire character. Give her the action-comedy lead, for real. It's overdue.

Quick sidebar that's barely related but I'm saying it anyway: we're in a weird little mini-renaissance of heist-adjacent stuff right now and I'm not mad about it. Bank robberies are just inherently fun to watch. Somebody gets a plan, the plan goes wrong, everybody yells. It's a recipe that has worked since forever and it still works.

I do have one honest hesitation, and you know I'll always give it to you straight like my grandma taught me: action-comedies live or die on whether the jokes actually land, and trailers cherry-pick the best 90 seconds. So the vibe could be slightly inflated here. But the cast chemistry reads real in the footage, and you can't fake that in an edit. Chemistry either shows up on screen or it doesn't, and from where I'm sitting, it shows up.

No firm release details to overpromise on beyond what ComingSoon has, so check their writeup for the specifics. I'll be first in line (on my couch or at the theater, both valid, don't @ me) when this thing arrives.

Anyway. Pete Davidson arguing with a getaway plan while Zoë Kravitz closes in on him is apparently my exact genre now. Didn't know I needed it until the trailer handed it to me.
