Apple just shipped iOS 27 Beta 8 to developers, and at 1.5GB it's another one of those late-cycle builds where the headline features are locked and what's left is janitorial work. Find My bug fixes, better cooling, the usual grab bag of small corrections.

The cooling tweaks are the part I keep coming back to. Thermal work this late in a beta cycle usually means Apple is tuning for real-world load, and thermals touch everything else on the phone, from sustained performance to how the radios behave. Whether that connects to anything users complained about this cycle I can't say without data, but it's the kind of fix that shows up in the small stuff before anyone gives it a name.

The Find My fixes matter more than they sound. A broken Find My in a beta is the kind of thing that makes you pull the profile off your daily driver in a hurry, because losing track of your laptop bag or your kid's iPad isn't some theoretical bug report. Apple hasn't published detailed release notes (they basically never do at this stage), so we're going on what testers report in the usual places.

The source report has this build landing ahead of the RC, which tracks with the calendar. A September reveal for the new iPhones is the safe bet, and if Apple follows its usual rhythm the RC follows shortly after with the public release a week or so later. That's me reading tea leaves, to be clear, not an announced schedule.

Beta 8 being this targeted (fixes for specific apps, thermal tuning) is exactly what a release candidate dress rehearsal looks like. The feature work is done. What's shipping now is polish.

Should you install it? If you're already on the beta train, yes, if only for the Find My fixes. If you're on iOS 26 waiting for stable, my usual advice applies: don't volunteer as the QA team. Wait for the RC.

The thing worth watching now is how the RC behaves day to day, because that's the build most people will actually live on. Apple won't publish a battery or thermals changelog, so the answer will come from a thousand tester screenshots over the next couple of weeks. If I were running the beta myself, surviving a full day without hunting for a charger would be the real benchmark...
