iQOO, Vivo's performance-focused sub-brand, is getting ready to launch its new Neo 12 smartphone and Pad Pro tablet in China, and preorders are already open ahead of the official unveiling later this month. If you've never heard of iQOO, don't feel bad; the brand barely sells outside Asia. But it's been quietly making some of the best bang-for-your-buck Android hardware around, and I always keep an eye on what they're up to because the specs tend to leak westward eventually.

According to The Tech Outlook, the Neo 12 will arrive in China this month with preorders already live. That's a fast turnaround, and my guess is iQOO wants the phone in hands before the holiday shopping season kicks off over there.

Details are still trickling out, but the Neo line has always been about one thing: flagship-grade performance at a midrange price. Think fast chipsets, high refresh rate displays, and charging speeds that make my old overnight-charging habits look quaint. I remember when charging a phone took half a day and you just accepted it, plugged it in at bedtime and hoped for the best. Now these companies are shipping 100W chargers in the box and a full battery in twenty minutes...

The Pad Pro is the one that interests me more, and regular readers won't be surprised why. I've said it before and I'll keep saying it: a tablet has to give you real productivity tools, not act as a big screen for watching videos. If iQOO pairs the Pad Pro with a proper stylus, keyboard support, and the multitasking features we've seen on their parent company's tablets, it could be a genuine work machine rather than a couch companion.

Now for the question most of you are probably asking: can you buy one? Probably not directly, if you're outside China. iQOO hardware occasionally makes its way to India and select markets, and importers will always find a way. But the more useful lesson here is what it tells us about where things are heading. When a sub-brand is confident enough to launch both a phone and a productivity tablet at the same time, the midrange is clearly where the action is right now.

I'll be watching the full spec sheet when the launch event happens, particularly the chipset, battery capacity, and whether the Pad Pro gets the accessories it deserves. Technology should work for you, and a well-priced tablet with real tools does exactly that. A cheap one that just plays videos doesn't.

As soon as the official specs land, I'll fill you in on whether the Neo 12 and Pad Pro are worth the import hassle or just another phone and slab. My granddaughter Jess keeps telling me I say that about every device I'm waiting on. She's not wrong.
