Jason Statham is back and we should all be grateful because the man simply does not miss. His new movie Mutiny hits theaters August 21 which is... two weeks away. wild. that's actually happening.

ok so the premise is classic statham territory. his character gets caught up in a conspiracy after his boss, a billionaire philanthropist, gets assassinated. now he's gotta clear his name while literally everyone tries to take him down. you already know what you're getting into and thats not a bad thing. sometimes you just need a guy who can throw a convincing elbow.

According to Collider, Jean-Francois Richet directed this, he did Mesrine and Blood Father. so it's not some random action vehicle thrown together. Richet knows how to shoot tension and kinetic chaos, and pairing him with Statham feels like one of those combos that shouldn't work on paper but absolutely will.

The supporting cast has Jason Flemyng, who's been in literally everything from Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels to The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. Annabelle Wallis and Roland Moller are in it too. solid ensemble, not a bunch of randoms.

And I know what some of you are thinking. another Statham action movie, big deal. but the guy has earned his spot here. he commits. does his own stunts. he has this specific intensity that most modern action stars can't replicate because they're too busy being likable. Statham doesn't care if you like him and thats exactly why you do.

My grandma Elizabeth Wingo always said she'd watch anything with a car chase in it and I think that gene passed straight down to me except swap car chases for fistfights in tight spaces. Mutiny seems like it'll deliver on that front.

Dante Rivera, my coworker who thinks every movie needs to be three hours long, will probably have opinions about whether this is "elevated" enough. but Dante also told me to watch The Boys back in season one and he was right about that, so I'll hear him out. even if he's wrong here.

Mid-August is usually a weird dead zone for releases, studios dump stuff they don't fully believe in. but Mutiny feels like it could be one of those surprise late-summer hits that catches people off guard. the kind of movie you see on a friday night with zero expectations and walk out thinking, okay that ruled.

August 21. mark it. bring a friend who yells at the screen during fight scenes, thats the ideal Mutiny experience.
