Joel Kinnaman is back on my screen and the man does not stop. His new action thriller The Beast just dropped its first trailer and locked in an October release date, and you can check out everything Collider reported right here.

oh and Samuel L. Jackson is in it too. Casual. Like that's a normal sentence you just say.

Details are still kind of thin because the trailer literally just arrived, but the setup is exactly the flavor of October movie I want: Kinnaman running, shooting, and looking deeply stressed while things explode around him. He's got that specific talent where you believe he's actually getting hurt. Like you wince. That's the whole skill and not everyone has it.

I feel like Kinnaman is in this weird sweet spot right now where he never stopped working but people forgot to be loud about him. Silent Night is still the proof point for me, the John Woo movie where he doesn't say a single word for the entire runtime. which, sidenote, is still one of the wilder swings I've seen an action movie take. A whole revenge movie carried on a performance with no dialogue and he pulls it off. If The Beast keeps that streak going then October is eating good.

And Jackson is Jackson. At this point he's a genre unto himself. You put him in a trailer and the movie instantly feels 30 percent more legit, that's just math. I don't know how big his role is here but even fifteen minutes of him doing the squint-and-deliver thing elevates whatever room he's standing in.

October is already stacked and I wrote about that last week when I ran down the theatrical slate, so this is one more log on the fire. Between this and everything else coming, the theater people are going to be busy. Good. I keep saying it but the movies that hit hardest right now feel like events, and a grimy little action thriller with these two is exactly the kind of thing that plays best with a loud Friday night crowd.

No exact date details beyond the October window in the Collider piece, so keep an eye out for when tickets actually go live. You know I'll be watching, mostly because Kinnaman has earned the benefit of the doubt from me at this point and i'm a sucker for a thriller that knows what it is.

Anyway. Trailer's out, October's set, Samuel L. Jackson is present. That's a recipe.
