Peacock's got a busy week lined up, and the headliner is a fun one for us gaming folks: Kevin Hart starring in a sci-fi video game adventure. If that sounds like a premise built specifically to get my attention, well, it is. A comedian dropped into a game world is the kind of high-concept setup that either sings or stumbles, and [Yahoo Entertainment has the full rundown](https://www.yahoo.com/entertainment/tv/articles/kevin-hart-sci-fi-video-170000911.html) of everything hitting the streamer alongside it.

I'd argue we're in a good stretch for game-adjacent screen projects right now, and I think part of the appeal for studios is obvious: game worlds come packaged with communities who already care. That cuts both ways, though. Fandoms that show up excited will also bounce fast if the project doesn't respect the source material, whatever that source turns out to be here.

What we know from the listing is the premise itself, Kevin Hart, sci-fi, a video game adventure. We don't yet know whether this is a series or a film, or whether it's built around an existing game or playing with the idea of games more loosely, and I'm not going to guess on either count. But the genre mashup is promising on its face. Hart's comedic energy plus sci-fi plus game-world logic could go full Jumanji, and that franchise is still my gold standard for this exact flavor of premise.

That said, a quick plea to whoever is writing these things: let the game logic actually matter. The best game-adjacent stories, Jumanji, Free Guy, even Arcane if you want to stretch the definition, work because they understand mechanics as storytelling. Lives, respawns, NPC behavior, the rules of the world. When a script just uses "video game" as wallpaper, gamers can smell it immediately.

Beyond Hart's project, Peacock has other new titles arriving this week too. The full list over at Yahoo is worth a skim, because cozy weekly release scans are basically patch notes for your streaming queue and I say that with love.

What's your bar for game-adjacent screen projects? Are you the type who gives every one three episodes, or do you bounce at the first bad HUD joke? My raid group has an ongoing debate about whether Jumanji counts as a video game movie and I refuse to settle it here, mostly because TJ would have opinions and he's still mad I called FFV's cast "functional." Drop your takes in the Discord. I'll be watching Hart dodge whatever sci-fi chaos this thing throws at him, probably with a controller in my lap out of pure habit.
