Well, here's a fun bit of streaming news. Kraven the Hunter, the Sony Marvel movie with Aaron Taylor-Johnson, lands on Disney+ the week of September 7 through September 13, and per AOL's rundown of the new releases, it shows up alongside enough other titles that AOL is billing it as Russell Crowe's second Marvel movie. Which, if you're doing the math on Crowe's comic book resume, tracks.

I saw Kraven in a theater that was, I'd estimate, twelve percent full, and I remember thinking the movie couldn't decide if it was a grim crime drama or a Saturday morning cartoon about a guy who talks to buffalo. It picked Saturday morning cartoon, eventually. The rhino stuff alone guarantees it a spot in the "movies I'll half-watch on a Sunday afternoon" rotation, and that's a real category in my house. Look, not everything needs to be The Odyssey. Some things just need to be on while you eat leftovers.

The rest of the week's slate is the usual Disney+ grab bag, library titles shuffling in and originals trickling out. I can't tell you exactly what else is on the list beyond Kraven, because the announcement is light on specifics, but that's fine. This feels like a consolidation week, the kind where the streamer restocks the shelves after a big month. If you've been meaning to catch up on something you missed, this is your window.

But Kraven is the headline, and it's worth pausing on why. Every Sony Spider-Man-adjacent movie that finds its way onto a Disney service feels like a small strange museum exhibit, and I'd include this one. Somewhere down the line somebody's going to write a genuinely great video essay about this whole run of films, and I'll watch every minute of it.

My advice: watch it with appropriately low expectations and a snack. There's a version of Kraven that's genuinely fun if you meet it where it lives, somewhere between earnest and completely unhinged. Crowe certainly did, based on what I saw. The man doesn't seem capable of mailing it in, even in a movie where a guy wrestles a bear and inherits its spirit, or something. The lore got away from me around minute forty.

Anyway, it's there, it's included in your subscription, and fall TV is still warming up. This is exactly the week for a moderately bad Marvel movie and zero guilt about it. You know my rule: if it entertains you, it counts.
