Quick one for your Sunday planning, because Lanterns returns tonight with episode 3, and if you're like me you want the watch scheduled down to the minute so nothing gets between you and Hal Jordan's cosmic police drama.

New episodes of Lanterns premiere Sundays at 9 PM ET on HBO, and the episode lands on HBO Max at the same time. Streaming instead of watching live? It's there starting at 9 PM ET / 6 PM PT tonight, August 30. So if you're on the West Coast and people are posting about it around dinnertime, now you know why. Forbes has the full breakdown if you want the whole schedule.

In case you missed how we got here, the series premiered earlier this month and episode 2 landed on August 23, so we're three hours into what's turning out to be a proper slow-burn mystery wrapped in Green Lantern mythology. No spoilers from me. I review things like a fan first and a critic second, and part of being a fan is not ruining someone else's night. But I'll say the show has been earning its weekly release format, which is rare enough these days that it deserves a mention. Not everything needs to dump all at once.

The weekly cadence also means you've still got time to catch up. Two episodes, that's it. Knock those out this afternoon with a sandwich and you're fully caught up before tonight's new hour. I've done worse things with a Sunday.

Jess Wingo already told me she's treating this show as background viewing, which I consider a grave mistake, but she also didn't believe me about The Odyssey IMAX tickets becoming a bloodbath, and look how that turned out. Some of us just see these things coming.

So set your reminder for 9 PM ET tonight on HBO or HBO Max, depending on your setup. If you're the type who waits and binges later, that's valid too. I don't believe in guilty pleasures or guilty viewing strategies. But a mystery show like this one lives and dies on the week-to-week theorizing, and I'd hate for you to miss that part.
