LEGO Batman fans have a date to circle on the calendar. The Mayhem Collection DLC for LEGO Batman: Legacy of The Dark Knight launches September 18, and it's dragging two of Gotham's most chaotic residents along with it: the Joker and Harley Quinn. Oh, and the whole thing is coming to Switch 2 as well, which honestly feels like the correct platform for a game built entirely out of plastic bricks.

Details are still thin beyond the date and the character lineup, which is standard for a pre-launch drip like this, but the core pitch is straightforward. The DLC adds new characters and presumably new story content centered on the villains side of the ledger, which is where LEGO games have always had the most fun anyway. The LEGO formula works because you smash everything and then rebuild it as a weapon, and nobody in the Batman roster smashes things with more enthusiasm than those two.

The Switch 2 release matters more than it might sound like it does. LEGO games are the ultimate couch-and-handheld genre, the kind of thing you play in 20-minute chunks while something else is on TV. Whether this is a fully native Switch 2 build or just an upgraded compatibility mode hasn't been spelled out, so I'm holding off on declaring either one. Either way, Gotham in brick form on a modern handheld sounds pretty good to me.

What I keep coming back to is how durable this franchise is. LEGO Batman in particular has survived multiple full reboots, a movie that was somehow one of the best Batman films ever made, and roughly a decade of TT Games refining the same core loop until it's basically a genre of its own. Shipping new DLC for a Dark Knight collection in 2026 tells you the audience never went anywhere.

September 18 puts this right in the middle of the busiest stretch of the fall, wedged between phone launches I've been tracking all month. If history is any guide, a launch trailer with about 90 percent physical comedy will show up a week before release, and that'll be your signal that it's actually happening.

And if the DLC lets me play as Harley swinging that giant mallet through a rebuildable Gotham skyline, my September is officially spoken for. Sorry, iPhone 18, you'll have to wait your turn. I've got bricks to break.
