Warner Bros. just gave us another peek at its newest LEGO Batman adventure, and it turns out September is going to be a double-dip month for the Dark Knight. The showcase over at GameRant confirms two separate releases penciled in, with new footage showing what's on the way, including some familiar faces from Batman's rogues gallery.

Joker and Harley Quinn feature prominently in what WB is showing off, which tracks. Those two have been the load-bearing villains of LEGO Batman since the very beginning, back when Traveller's Tales cracked the formula in 2008. I still remember renting that first LEGO Batman from my local Blockbuster and being genuinely surprised at how well the brick-and-brawl pacing held up alongside LEGO Star Wars. Seventeen years later the formula hasn't changed much and I mean that as a compliment. You know what you're getting: smashable scenery, collectible studs, goofy cutscenes and a cast list that reads like a DC encyclopedia.

The two September releases are the interesting wrinkle here. Splitting a LEGO game launch into two parts isn't the standard playbook, and WB hasn't exactly been shy about squeezing every coin out of the Batman license lately. Is this a genuine two-part structure, or a base game plus a meaty expansion wearing a second release date? I'm reserving judgment until we see pricing.

What keeps me coming back to this series is the sheer density of fan service. The LEGO games have always been quietly great at preserving deep-cut characters that bigger, more self-serious DC games wouldn't touch. If the new footage is any indication, that tradition continues.

For now, September belongs to Batman in brick form, punching Joker and rebuilding Gotham one stud at a time. Have you gone back to any of the older LEGO DC games lately? They still hold up better than they have any right to.
