Qui-Gon Jinn is back. kind of. sort of. in a way that still counts.

liam neeson is officially returning to the star wars galaxy for a new 2027 release, and before anyone starts screaming about a spinoff movie or a disney plus series... it's a hot toys statue. a collectible. but that still counts and I will explain why.

according to Collider, hot toys is putting out a new qui-gon jinn 1/6-scale statue slated for 2027, featuring a liam neeson likeness. no specifics on accessories or sculpt details yet beyond that, but if you know hot toys, you know the bar is high.

now I know what you're thinking. "jess it's a statue, calm down." first of all, don't call hot toys statues mere action figures where dante can hear you, he'll give you a whole lecture about articulation engineering and display-grade collectibles. second of all, I will never calm down about qui-gon.

qui-gon is the most underrated jedi in the entire saga and I will fight anyone who disagrees. he's the one who found anakin. he defied the council on the regular. he had a whole different relationship with the force that the order was too rigid to understand. and he got darth maul'd way too early. the phantom menace has problems, sure, but liam neeson walking through that movie with absolute zen confidence is not one of them.

the fact that we're still getting new qui-gon merch in 2027, 28 years after episode I dropped, says everything about how much this character stuck with people. neeson's feelings about returning to star wars on screen have gone back and forth over the years. he's expressed interest in certain moments and also said he was done with the role at other times. fair enough. the guy doesn't owe anyone a five-season streaming arc.

but the character lives on through stuff like this. and for people who love building collections, who display their statues and pose them and treat them like little pieces of movie history, a new qui-gon is a big deal. hot toys doesn't mess around. these are the kind of pieces you keep on a shelf and actually want to look at every day, at least in my experience.

I've been saying it for weeks and I'll say it again: physical stuff matters. whether it's a 4k restoration of transformers or a vinyl pressing of your favorite album or a beautifully crafted collectible of a jedi who deserved better, the things you can actually hold and put on your shelf hit different. grandma wingo raised me to appreciate the tech that makes entertainment possible, but also to love the tangible artifacts that come out of it.

no price announced yet. but if you've ever looked at hot toys stuff before, you know it's an investment. 2027 feels far away but it'll be here before any of us are ready.
