The countdown is basically over. Marvel's Wolverine goes live at 12 a.m. ET on Tuesday, September 15, which is 9 p.m. Pacific on Monday night for the West Coast crowd. Forbes has the full breakdown, but the short version: Eastern time gets a true midnight unlock. No rolling regional nonsense, no waiting for your local store to open.

I've always liked a flat midnight ET unlock because it's the closest thing we still get to old midnight launch energy. You'd stand in line at GameStop with a hundred other sleep-deprived people, trade predictions, drive home with the disc warm in the passenger seat. Now the line is just you and a download bar and the question of whether you pre-loaded in time. If you haven't, go do that now. Insomniac games are not small.

For anyone catching up, this is Insomniac's take on Logan, and if it follows the trajectory of their Spider-Man work, we're in for something good. The studio has spent the last several years proving a superhero game can feel like the character instead of just wearing the costume. Spider-Man swung. Miles thundered. Wolverine should carve. And for physical media holdouts like me, the good news: Insomniac confirmed the game is fully playable offline on disc.

So set your alarm, or don't, and just stay up like the rest of us. Nine p.m. Pacific, midnight Eastern, claws out. If you see a guy in the online rankings named after a Final Fantasy V party member around 12:15 a.m., that'll be me. Some traditions survive every console generation.
