ok so Nancy Meyers just decided to fix everything apparently.

the woman who gave us The Holiday, aka the only christmas movie that matters (sorry Elf truthers), is coming back to the holiday genre with a new romantic comedy. and the cast she's putting together is kind of insane? Penélope Cruz, Kieran Culkin, Jude Law, Emma Mackey, and Owen Wilson are all attached to star.

I don't even need to know the plot. you could tell me they're all stuck in an airport for two hours and I'd watch it. but according to the first details, Meyers is teasing a return to the Christmas setting that made The Holiday the cultural force it still is nearly twenty years later.

say what you want about Nancy Meyers movies. people love to call them comfort food like that's a bad thing. but The Holiday holds up in a way that most 2006 rom-coms absolutely do not. the Kate Winslet storyline alone? Jack Black being sweet and normal? Jude Law with his glasses and his daughters and that english cottage? it's a perfect movie. I will not be taking criticism at this time.

having Penélope Cruz in this is such a smart move. she's got the range to do both the comedy and the emotional stuff Meyers always goes for. and Kieran Culkin coming off the Succession run... like, if you watched Roman Roy and didn't think "this guy should do a rom-com immediately" I don't know what to tell you. the man can do anything.

Jude Law being back in a Nancy Meyers movie feels right. he was the romantic lead in The Holiday and now he's returning to the meyers-christmas universe. I'm emotional about it and I don't think that's unreasonable.

the movie is set to hit theaters on Christmas Day 2027. that feels far but also... time is fake and december always comes faster than you think.

what I really want to know is whether there will be a house. you know what I mean. every Nancy Meyers movie has That House. the kitchen island. the white cabinets. the cozy reading nook that makes you question every design choice you've ever made in your own apartment. my grandma Elizabeth would absolutely have something to say about the architecture in a Nancy Meyers movie, and she'd be right, because those houses are characters themselves.

if this movie gives us even one scene that hits like Iris falling asleep in that ridiculous Surrey farmhouse, it's already won. december 2027 can't come fast enough.
