ok so this is actually happening. Netflix has officially confirmed The Inbetweeners reunion movie, and no it's not one of those "reboot with new random teens" situations, this is the real deal. The original cast is back playing Will, Simon, Jay and Neil, production has already kicked off, and [Deadline](https://deadline.com/2026/09/netflix-confirms-inbetweeners-reunion-movie-cast-1237070074/) even has a first look at everyone back in character.

If you know, you know. If you don't, The Inbetweeners was THE British comedy of its era. Four deeply uncool teenagers being the most awkward versions of themselves possible, and somehow it became one of the most quoted shows ever. like people my age were still saying "friend" at each other in a condescending tone last week, that's how deep this show's fingerprints are on the culture. my grandma Elizabeth raised me on good tech and good taste and even she knows about this show purely from how often it gets referenced.

The big question with any reunion is always whether it's a cash grab or an actual idea. And I'll be straight, that's a fair worry here. The show ended in a pretty perfect place, the two movies already existed, and reunion projects have a messy track record. There's a version of this where everyone's 15 years older doing the same bits and it's just sad. But there's also a version where middle-aged Will, Simon, Jay and Neil is the funniest possible premise, because the whole joke of that show was that life keeps humiliating you and it never really stops. Being nearly 40 and still like that? that's comedy material right there.

No plot details yet, which is standard for these things, but getting all four original actors back in the same room and actually filming is the whole battle. These casts are notoriously impossible to wrangle once everyone's gone off and done their own stuff. Somebody at Netflix clearly decided this was worth the effort and I respect it.

I do wonder about the tone. part of what made the show work was how specific it was to being a teenager, the car, the school trips, the frantic energy of it all. Do you keep that frantic energy but aged up? Do you go full midlife crisis? Either could work. Either could also be a disaster. I'm choosing optimism because the alternative is being annoying about a show I love before I've seen a single frame.

No release window mentioned in the Deadline piece, so I'd guess we're looking at sometime next year at the earliest given they're just now starting production. I'll keep an eye out for a title and a date, and when the first trailer drops you already know I'll have thoughts.

until then... go rewatch the show. it holds up and I will not be taking questions on that.
