Hasbro is sending ponies back to our screens, and they actually found a way to do it that genuinely surprises me. The next My Little Pony series is called Forever Friendship and it's coming exclusively to YouTube sometime in 2027.

That platform choice is the whole story here. YouTube is where kids already are, scrolling through shorts and watching their favorite creators on the family iPad. Putting a full animated series there instead of locking it behind a cable network or some specific streaming subscription is a pretty smart play for reaching kids where they actually live.

Details are thin right now. No word on whether this continues any existing storyline from Friendship Is Magic or the more recent Make Your Mark and Tell Your Tale runs, or if it's a clean reboot with a new cast of characters. The title suggests the friendship theme isn't going anywhere, which, yeah, that's the whole brand. You can check out the original report over on MSN for what's been confirmed so far.

What gets me is the YouTube of it all. We've seen platforms like Netflix and Apple TV+ become homes for premium kids' animation, but YouTube has mostly been short-form territory. Clips, compilations, toy unboxings. A full series dropping there feels like a real shift in how these companies think about distribution.

I haven't watched My Little Pony with any regularity since my niece went through her massive pony phase about six years ago, but I sat through enough episodes to understand why people love it. The best episodes deal with real emotional stakes, social anxiety, feeling left out, figuring out who your people are. When the show leans into that stuff, it earns its audience across age groups.

Jess Wingo would tell you I'm a sucker for any animated series that takes its characters seriously, and she'd be right. I'm not saying Forever Friendship will be prestige television. But the My Little Pony creative teams have earned my benefit of the doubt more often than not.

2027 is a long way off. A lot can shift between now and then, including the actual release window. But the next time someone in your life goes through a pony phase, it sounds like YouTube is where you'll find the newest batch of episodes.
