okay so this is not a drill. New Radicals, the band that gave us "You Get What You Give" and then vanished for like 28 years, just dropped a new song. I wasn't even alive when their one album came out and now they're back?? wild.

If you don't know New Radicals, first of all where have you been. "You Get What You Give" is one of those songs that lives in your brain forever. You hear the opening guitar and something in your chest activates. It's on every feel-good playlist, every coming-of-age movie soundtrack, every "songs that make you feel human" compilation. Gregg Alexander wrote it, the band released Maybe You've Been Brainwashed Too in 1998, and then they just... stopped. One album. Gone. Absolute legend behavior.

and now there's new music. Paste Magazine says they've officially dropped their first new track since the 90s. I don't even know what to do with this information. Play it on repeat until I memorize every word? obviously yes. Overanalyze every lyric for clues about why they came back now? also yes.

What's wild is "You Get What You Give" never actually went away. It's been creeping back into cultural relevance every few years through TikTok, through movie placements, through that very specific feeling of hearing it at a grocery store and suddenly crying in the cereal aisle. The song sounds like hope in audio form. And Gregg Alexander basically became mythical because he walked away at the peak. No follow-up album, no reunion tour grind, none of it. Just one perfect thing and then silence.

until now apparently.

I have no idea if a full album is coming or if this is a one-off. What I DO know is Dante is gonna have opinions and they'll probably be like "you can't go back after 28 years, the mystique is the point" and he'll be wrong but he'll say it with such confidence that I'll consider it for like two seconds before dismissing it entirely.

My grandma always says the best art comes from people who actually have something to say and aren't just filling space. If Gregg Alexander waited 28 years to say something, I'm gonna listen.

Go play the new track. Then go play "You Get What You Give" right after because let's be real, that's happening regardless.
