Palworld's tabletop side just hit a small speed bump. A Palworld Official Card Game release got pushed back in Japan, specifically a sleeve set fans were expecting soon. According to GameRant, the delay hits the upcoming sleeve product with no firm new date yet.

If you haven't kept up with the tabletop arm of Pocketpair's operation, the card game is exactly what it sounds like: Pals, cards, and presumably a lot of very confused Lamball art. The sleeves sound trivial until you've shuffled a hundred unsleeved cards into oblivion. Anyone who played the original Pokémon TCG back in the day without sleeves knows. My base set cards have corner wear that still bothers me, decades later.

Accessory delays usually come down to manufacturing or logistics, and nothing here suggests trouble for the card game itself. I've covered enough of these to know the pattern: a small product slips and the community decides the whole line is dying. Nine times out of ten it's a printing schedule, not a death spiral.

Palworld as a brand is branching out in every direction at once and tabletop merch is part of that push. Whether the card game outlives the novelty is an open question. Monster-collecting card games survive on tournament support and set rotation, and it's too early to judge either. Pokémon had a decade to figure that out. Palworld has had minutes.

For now, if you were waiting on the sleeve set, you're waiting a little longer. There's no word on Western availability for this wave, so importers may be the only ones affected stateside.

I'll keep an eye on it. Sleeve delays won't kill a card game. Bad balance and no support will, and we won't know about those until the game gets a few sets deep.
