ok so this one's short but fun. PlayStation put up a free Spider-Man download on the PS Store, and it's listed as being "courtesy of Brand New Day." No other info, no explanation, just that. Free stuff is free stuff though, I'm not complaining.

And I'd rather be straight with you than pad this out: the announcement doesn't actually say what the download is, and it doesn't spell out what the Brand New Day connection is either. Could be a theme, could be an add-on, could be something else entirely. It's a PS5 item on the PlayStation Store and it costs zero dollars, that's what's confirmed. If you want to know exactly what you're getting, the answer right now is... go look at the store page, because Sony didn't elaborate.

Is this basically marketing? almost certainly it's marketing. Sony wants attention pointed at PlayStation, and a freebie is the easiest way to do it. I've made peace with this kind of thing. Free digital goodies are free digital goodies, even when you know full well it's a promo play.

One heads up I can't fully verify: I'd grab it sooner rather than later. Promo items like this sometimes have a limited run, but that's me guessing based on how these things usually go, not anything Sony has said. Don't blame me if you wait three weeks and it's gone, but also don't treat that as confirmed, because it isn't.

So yeah. PS5 owners, go click the button. Costs you nothing and it's Spider-Man. Just don't ask me what it actually is, because apparently nobody knows yet.
