Nintendo is giving Pokémon Legends: Z-A the treatment a lot of us physical collectors have been begging for: an actual boxed release that includes the game's Mega Dimension DLC. As Polygon reports, the new physical edition is headed to Switch 2, and it bundles the base game together with the Mega Dimension expansion.

The details we do have are solid: it lands on October 29. What stings a little is that Nintendo hasn't announced a price yet. The digital version of the base game plus the DLC retails for the combined cost of the game and its expansion, so the smart money says the physical bundle lands somewhere in that same neighborhood, maybe with a small premium for the box. But until Nintendo puts a number on it, we're guessing.

For context on why this matters to so many of us, I've been playing these games since trading cartridges on the school bus was the only way to complete a Pokédex, so the idea of Pokémon you can't hold in your hands sits a little funny with me. And I know I'm not alone in that. Every time a digital-only release makes the rounds, my Discord lights up with the same conversation about preservation, lending games to friends, and shelf space.

The Mega Dimension DLC is the real draw here. It leans hard into Mega Evolution, which is exactly the nostalgia vein Legends: Z-A was built to mine. Bundling it with the base game makes this the closest thing to a complete edition, and for anyone who waited on the sidelines, this is probably your moment.

It also says something about where game releases are heading. Physical editions arriving months after the fact feels like it's becoming the standard play rather than the exception. Publishers get their day-one digital sales, collectors get their box eventually, and everyone grumbles a little in between. But the grumbling works: enough of us kept asking for physical Pokémon that we're getting it. Communities move these decisions more than publishers like to admit.

If you've already bought the game and the DLC digitally, there's probably not much here for you unless you're a collector. But if you held out, or you're hunting for a gift for the Pokémon fan in your life, October 29 is circled on my calendar and it should probably be on yours too. Keep an eye out for the price announcement before then.

So, question for you all: are you still buying physical when the digital option is right there, or has your shelf finally gone full library mode? Mine's still half cartridges, and I intend to keep it that way.
