Some movies just sneak up on you. You watch them once on a flight because nothing else looks good, and then five years later you're buying a second copy because the first one got scratched. That's About Time for a lot of people, and now it's finally getting a proper 4K release.

The film, which is Rachel McAdams' highest-rated movie, is getting a 4K Ultra HD edition. According to the original report, the new version will include special features, though exactly what's on them hasn't been confirmed yet.

If you've never seen it, the premise sounds like it shouldn't work. A young man discovers the men in his family can travel through time, and he uses it to win over the woman of his dreams. Sounds like a gimmick rom-com, maybe something lazy, and the first act almost plays that way. But Curtis, who wrote Love Actually and Notting Hill, is after something bigger. The movie becomes this genuinely moving meditation on appreciating ordinary days, and by the end you're sitting there wondering why you're crying at a time travel movie.

McAdams is the anchor, though. She's warm and funny and real in a way that grounds all the fantastical stuff. The whole thing works because she makes it work. She's just present in every scene, and everything gets a little better when she's on screen.

The 4K upgrade matters here because the movie has real texture to it. A standard Blu-ray was fine. This should be better.

No firm street date beyond the initial announcement, but the promise of special features alone is enough that I'd start clearing shelf space. Some movies earn a permanent spot on the rack. This is one of them.
