MSN just put out a ranked list of the 10 worst games of the 2010s, and reading it felt like flipping through an old guild's screenshot folder of failed raid nights. Painful at the time. Weirdly nostalgic now.

The usual suspects are here. Ride to Hell: Retribution, the 2013 biker disaster that's basically the measuring stick for broken releases, sits at the top where it belongs. That game shipped in a state where even the cutscenes fought against you. I remember a guildmate streaming it as a joke and the jokes ran out about forty minutes in. It was just sad.

Metal Gear Survive makes the cut too, and deservedly. The game was mediocre, sure, but the real sin is that it took the skeleton of Metal Gear Solid V, one of the best-playing games of the decade, and drained every ounce of personality out of it. Konami turning a beloved series into a survival grind with a paywall for an extra save slot stung in a way few business decisions ever have. My Discord still brings it up whenever Konami does something nice, like a friend who won't let you forget one bad breakup.

The rest of the list covers the decade's greatest hits of disappointment. Broken launches, cynical licensed cash grabs, sequels that misunderstood everything people loved about the originals. The 2010s were genuinely a golden age of games, which is exactly why the failures stand out so sharply. When you're releasing next to The Witcher 3 and Breath of the Wild, shipping something unfinished isn't a fog-of-war situation anymore. Everyone sees it.

Lists like this always make me think about the communities that formed around the wreckage, though. Some of the friendliest corners of gaming I've ever been in were built on terrible games, because when a game gives you nothing to grind for, you end up just... talking to each other. Half my lasting online friendships came out of games that reviewed like a house fire.

Worth a scroll if you want to relive the carnage. Fair warning though: if you backed any of these at full price, the list might reopen old wounds.

What's the worst game you actually finished anyway? Somebody out there 100 percented Ride to Hell, and I want to shake their hand.
