Good news for anyone with a co-op-shaped hole in their weekly schedule: RuneScape: Dragonwilds is coming to Xbox Game Pass on day one, per GameRant. Subscribers get to jump into Jagex's open world survival game the moment it goes live, no extra purchase required.

If you missed the earlier access period, Dragonwilds drops you and up to three friends into the continent of Ashfall, a fantasy wilderness where you gather, build, craft, and try very hard not to get eaten by dragons. It's RuneScape's lore run through a survival-crafting filter, and the co-op loop is exactly the kind of thing my Discord server devours. Someone's always the base builder, someone's always off chasing ore veins, and someone always dies to the first big monster because they didn't wait for the group. Every time. It's tradition.

The day-one Game Pass drop matters for a game like this more than it would for a single-player title. Co-op games live or die on whether your friends can actually play with you, and cost kills more group plans than lack of interest ever will. When everyone in the group chat already has Game Pass, the "should we buy it" debate disappears and the "what time are we on tonight" debate starts immediately. I've watched this exact pattern carry games like Shift at Midnight into my circle's rotation, and I'd bet Dragonwilds gets the same treatment.

Jagex has also been steadily updating the game through its early access run, adding new regions, spells, and build options based on player feedback. The 1.0 launch is the moment all of that work pays off, and Game Pass puts it in front of a massive audience right as the game is at its most complete.

And can we just appreciate that RuneScape, the game so many of us played in a browser tab while pretending to do homework, is now a full open world co-op survival experience arriving day one on a major subscription service? The grind never died. It just got better graphics.

If your group needs a new home, this is an easy recommendation. Drop your camp near water, always. I've made that mistake so you don't have to.
