Game Pass just keeps feeding us this month. GameRant reports that RuneScape: Dragonwilds is the sixth title to land on Xbox Game Pass in September 2026, and it's arriving as a day-one release on September 15 from Jagex, the studio behind the long-running RuneScape universe. If that name means anything to you, your ears just perked up.

Dragonwilds is the open-world survival crafting spin on RuneScape that Jagex has been building out in early access on PC, and it's the co-op part that has my guild-brain buzzing. An open-world co-op RPG adventure means you and your party are in it together, for the long haul. It's the kind of game where someone in your Discord says "just one more crafting run" and suddenly it's 1 a.m. and nobody's mad about it. Survival crafting with actual RPG bones, from devs who understand progression systems better than almost anyone.

And the Game Pass day-one drop matters here. For a co-op game especially, Game Pass is the great equalizer. Nobody in your friend group has to make a big upfront purchase just to find out if the game clicks. Everyone already has it, which is exactly what gives you a healthy player base at launch instead of a ghost town three weeks later. For a survival game, population is everything.

It's also a smart landing spot for Jagex. RuneScape's whole identity has always been community. The original game has survived for decades on the strength of its players, the clans, the wiki culture, the people who maxed skills most of us didn't know existed. Putting the newest branch of that universe somewhere with millions of subscribers built in just makes sense.

The fall blockbuster season is about to get loud. But there's room for a co-op survival game you can jump into tonight with friends, for the price of a subscription you probably already pay. That's a pretty good deal.

If you've been waiting for an excuse to get your crew back together, this is a pretty good one. Nothing bonds a party like collectively fleeing something you absolutely were not ready for. Ask my FFXIV static about the time we pulled early. Actually, don't.
