The Scary Movie reboot is officially home on Blu-ray and Digital, with a 4K release dated for September 22, 2026, which is basically now. The reporting frames this as landing a few months after the sequel's long-awaited debut, and that's about all I can confirm on the timing, so I'll leave the math to them.

Why this mattered at all: the Wayans family came back. The people who built this thing, back when their horror spoof turned into a phenomenon and accidentally invented a whole subgenre, returned for the reboot. Everything from A Haunted House to the endless parody-machine era of the mid-2000s traces back to that first movie, and most of the copies were bad. The originals had rhythm. Jokes came fast, half of them missed, but the ones that landed really landed, and the whole thing felt like extremely talented people messing around with a camera.

What's actually on the disc beyond the movie hasn't been spelled out anywhere I've seen, so I can't tell you whether we're getting gag reels, deleted scenes, or the usual making-of chatter. I will say this, though, and it's pure opinion from someone who wore out these DVDs: a Wayans commentary track is half the reason to own one of these. As I recall, Marlon and Shawn just going off over the original was better than the original, and if my memory's right and this new disc ships without one, that's a real miss.

I never caught it in theaters, so no verdict from me on the movie itself yet. I've long believed, as taste rather than reporting, that the Wayans brothers genuinely love the horror they're mocking, and that's usually the difference between a spoof that works and one that's cardboard. Whether this one pulls it off, I'll find out the same way you will: disc in the player.

Spoofs rewatch well, when they work. They're comfort food. You put on Scary Movie on a Friday night with friends and quote it for the next month. I've had this one pre-ordered since the date was announced, so yes, I'm the target audience and I'm at peace with that.

Quick verdict once I've spun it: I'll report back on whether the disc earns the shelf space or if Digital is the smarter buy. My money's on the disc, because if you've read me before you know where I stand on physical media. It doesn't vanish because a licensing deal expired.

Anyone else picking this one up, or are you waiting on the reviews first?
