It's roundup time again, and this week the folks at Gear Patrol have a nice crop of audio gear to sort through. Two releases jumped out at me immediately, and one of them made me a little misty. I'll get to that in a minute.

The headliner is Sennheiser's new flagship wireless earbuds. I've long liked the company's wireless line for family members who don't want to fuss with settings but still want music that sounds like music. Gear Patrol doesn't list specifications yet, so I won't pretend to know what's inside these. I will say that "flagship" in 2026 usually means the whole package: adaptive noise cancellation, spatial audio, and battery life that would have seemed like witchcraft back when my first portable CD player ate four AA batteries in an afternoon. We'll see what Sennheiser actually packed in once the full details land.

The other release I'm genuinely curious about is Pro-Ject's new entry-level turntable. And this is where I get a little sentimental. I still remember my sister's record player in the living room, the ceremony of lowering the needle, the way an album demanded your attention for a full side. An entry-level turntable from a respected name like Pro-Ject is a doorway for another generation to discover that ritual. No pricing has been announced that I've seen, so I can't tell you yet whether it's a doorway most people can walk through. But I'm hopeful.

Technology should work for you, and a turntable is maybe the purest example of that principle I know. No app, no firmware update waiting for you at dinner, no account to create. You put the record on, and it plays.

The rest of the roundup includes the usual assortment of earbuds, speakers, and hi-fi bits that show up in any given week, and it's worth a browse if audio is your thing. I'd rather point you toward the two standouts than list everything, because useful gear beats shiny gear every single time.

A word of caution on the earbuds, though. "Flagship" is often code for "flagship price," and I've watched enough launch weeks to know the first sticker shock is real. If Sennheiser has kept the price in the same neighborhood as its previous top model, these could be the easy recommendation of the season. If the price has crept into four-hundred-dollar-and-beyond territory, I'd tell you what I tell my granddaughter Jess when she's eyeing something trendy: wait for the reviews, and then wait for the holiday sales. Patience costs nothing and saves plenty.

I'll be watching for full specs, pricing, and reviews on both of these, especially that turntable, and I'll report back once somebody has spent real time with them. My birthday is coming up, and I've already dropped a hint or two to my kids about the Pro-Ject. We'll see if they were listening.
