September has officially started on Xbox Game Pass, and the first game through the door is Shelldiver, now live across three tiers of the service. If you've been sitting on that subscription wondering when the fall wave would begin, wonder no more, the dam has broken. Game Rant has the full breakdown of what's arrived and what it means for the month ahead.

Shelldiver is available on console, PC, and Cloud, so however you play, you're covered. That's the kind of rollout I like to see. None of that "available on select tiers" fine print that leaves half the Discord server grumbling because one person can play and the rest are stuck watching screenshots.

First-of-the-month drops are always a small statement. Whatever Shelldiver turns out to be, and the title alone has me curious, having something fresh land on day one of September tells subscribers the fall lineup isn't going to coast. Timing matters this year more than most, too, because we all know a certain giant game is looming in November and everyone's calendars are about to get very crowded. Getting new catalog games in the bank before that storm hits is just good housekeeping.

As for what else September brings, expect more additions to roll out over the coming weeks. Microsoft tends to announce these in waves rather than one big dump, so keep an eye on the app. I'll be tracking the picks worth your attention as they land.

Anyway, Shelldiver is downloading as I type this. There's really nothing better for a fresh catalog drop than going in blind with your crew. Everyone's equally clueless, everyone's laughing, nobody's carrying. That's the good stuff.

What's your crew's pick for the first September session? Drop it in the comments, I'm always recruiting recommendations.
