It's been one of those weeks where my inbox looks like a Black Friday ad, and I mean that as a compliment. Gear Patrol rounded up the best new tech of the week, and two names jumped out at me: Sonos, which apparently decided to announce everything at once, and Roku, which is finally stepping into OLED territory. You can see the full rundown over at Gear Patrol.

Let's start with Sonos, because a big week of announcements from that company is worth pausing over. I remember when wireless multiroom audio was a luxury party trick that cost as much as a used car. Now it's table stakes, and Sonos has spent years fighting to stay ahead of the very pack it created. A concentrated burst of new hardware tells me they're pushing back against all the copycats nipping at their heels, and good for them. Competition is wonderful, but the company that made whole-home audio normal for regular people deserves a little loyalty now and then.

And Roku. OLED TVs from Roku, of all things. There was a time when Roku was the little purple box you stuck under a tube television, and I owned two of them myself. Now they're building panels with the deep blacks OLED is famous for. My granddaughter Jess would tell you I'm a sucker for an underdog growing up, and she wouldn't be wrong.

My usual advice applies here, as it always does: don't pre-order anything until the reviews land, and don't buy technology that solves a problem you don't have. If your current TV makes you happy, an OLED badge won't change your life. If your soundbar crackles every time you open the microwave, well, that's a different conversation entirely.

I'll keep an eye on hands-on impressions for both, especially those Roku panels, because OLED quality varies wildly depending on who's actually manufacturing the screen. When I know more, you'll know more.
