Every Star Wars fan knows the feeling. A game gets announced, the hype spikes, and then... nothing. Months of silence turn into years, and eventually you stop checking for news because it just hurts too much. That's been the story for two of the biggest Star Wars projects ever announced, but this week's Star Wars showcase finally broke the silence on both.

As ComingSoon reports, the showcase quietly confirmed that both the Knights of the Old Republic remake and Star Wars Eclipse are still alive and moving forward. No hard release dates, but after the stretches these two have had, "still in active development" feels like a gift.

KOTOR first, because that game has been through it. Announced in 2021 as a PS5 console exclusive, it went from Aspyr to Saber Interactive after a reportedly rough internal milestone, then vanished almost entirely from official conversation. For a while there, the smart money was on a quiet cancellation. Every few months a rumor would surface saying it was dead, then another saying it wasn't, and the rest of us just refreshed our feeds like it was a raid boss that refused to die. Turns out it didn't. The showcase's confirmation is the most official word we've had in ages.

KOTOR matters to people, and I get it. For a whole generation of players, that 2003 BioWare RPG was their first taste of what a Star Wars story could be when you took the movies out of the equation and just let the universe breathe. Revan's reveal still gets referenced in guild chats I sit in twenty-something years later. You don't remake that lightly, and maybe that's exactly why it's taken this long.

Star Wars Eclipse is the other one, Quantic Dream's ambitious project set during the High Republic era. It was revealed at the 2021 Game Awards with a gorgeous cinematic trailer, then it also mostly disappeared, though in Quantic Dream's case the studio was busy shipping its Detroit follow-up work and weathering plenty of industry chatter about the project's scope. The High Republic setting alone makes it worth the wait, since that era of Jedi at their peak has barely been touched in games. Eclipse leaning into it feels like free real estate in the best way.

Neither game got a date, and I'd be lying if I said that didn't sting a little. But confirmation matters. Games die in silence. A project that stops getting mentioned at official events is usually a project in trouble, so putting both of these on a showcase stage, even briefly, is a signal. Someone at Lucasfilm Games decided these were worth talking about again, and that decision travels up a chain. Someone fought for that slot.

It also fits the broader pattern of Lucasfilm Games ramping up its gaming presence. Between the Respawn titles, Ubisoft's open-world Outlaws, BitReactor's strategy game, and whatever else is cooking, Star Wars gaming is in its busiest stretch since the LucasArts heyday. Reviving two dormant heavyweights into that mix suggests they're playing the long game here, not just filling a release calendar.

So now we wait again, but this time the waiting feels different. There's a floor under these projects that wasn't there before. My honest-to-goodness hope is that KOTOR gets the proper reveal treatment when it's actually ready to show gameplay, because a remake of that caliber deserves more than a logo and a promise. And Eclipse, well, show me a High Republic Jedi with a lightsaber and I'm there day one.

Did you play KOTOR back in the day, or did you come to Revan through the MMO? I've met so many players who learned the lore through The Old Republic's class stories and went backward. Either way, drop it in the comments, I'm curious which entry point got you hooked on this corner of the galaxy.
