Bit Reactor's tactical Star Wars game finally has a firm date. Star Wars Zero Company drops August 27 on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S. Pre-orders are live right now if you already know you want in.

The pitch hasn't changed since the first trailer: a turn-based, squad tactics game set during the Clone Wars, leaning hard into the XCOM formula. Bit Reactor is packed with Firaxis veterans, people who basically wrote the book on modern turn-based strategy. When the reveal hit I remember thinking this was either going to be the Star Wars tactics game we've been waiting decades for, or another ambitious project that buckles under the weight of the license.

The setting is what sells it. The Clone Wars era is fertile ground for a squad-based tactics game. You're running a specialist unit through missions that demand positioning, cover management and careful ability usage. If you ever played Republic Commando back on the original Xbox, the squad-first DNA is there, just translated into turn-based tactics instead of real-time shooting.

Pricing splits across platforms. The Standard Edition runs $49.99 on PC and $59.99 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. The Deluxe edition sits at $89.99, bundling the season pass and some cosmetic packs. Deluxe buyers also get three days of early access, which is pretty much the default pre-order incentive everywhere now. Nothing surprising.

What I'm really watching for is how the turn-based combat holds up. XCOM works because every shot matters and every miss stings. If Bit Reactor can capture that tension inside the Star Wars universe, with lightsaber-wielding Jedi and clone troopers filling out your roster, we could be looking at something special. Nina and I were debating recently whether Square Enix still makes the best turn-based combat in gaming, and I'll say the same thing I told her: the crown is up for grabs. Studios outside Japan are getting genuinely good at this.

August 27. Mark it down, especially if you've been starving for a Star Wars game that asks you to think before you pull the trigger.
